METAMORPHOSIS

‘Metamorphosis’ is a wearable sculpture which through Performance observes transformations within nature and how minute sections of plant life can parallel a human lifespan. ‘Metamorphosis’ characterises three separate stages of life into a singular garment, the Costume pollinates, contracts and expands.

First, an infant white fluffy being sheds like a dandelion clock. The layer beneath the pollen reveals an organic structured body ‘Pupa’ a cocoon with coned, porous limbs. 927 pipe pieces cover the entire front of the garment create a porous skin-like texture. Pupa awakens, expanding in various refined pleats surrounding the body like a flower blooming or wings opening. This introduces Adult, the final transformation awakens its cocooned legs into a calm rhythm of steady breathing.
